The ITK is a single nationally agreed framework for local interoperability, developed in accordance with existing standards development bodies (e.g. HL7-UK and IHE-UK) to create a single code of connection to NHS healthcare applications.
The Fiorano ITK Framework is built on the Fiorano Hybrid Integration Platform (HIP) with support for high speed, reliable messaging and healthcare protocol standards. The adaptability and scalability of the Framework makes it suitable for integrating a wide range of systems used by NHS Health/Social Care Providers both small and big including those located within a GP practice, or a hospital as well as connecting many practices and hospitals together over a wide area.

The Fiorano ITK Framework is certified for all the mandatory middleware modules and major ITK Bundles such as Patient Identity Management, Encounter Management, Query Patient, Correspondence, Spine Mini Services, etc. It covers Catalogues for Clinical Correspondence, Hospital Admission, Discharge and Transfers and Spine Mini Services
The fully compliant ITK-broker can route or broadcast HL7 and CDA messages (as well as PDFs, diagnostic images and so on) in a simple but highly configurable manner. Integrating a new ITK compliant system into an existing environment with the Fiorano ITK Framework can be achieved in minutes.
Since the Fiorano Healthcare Framework is built on the Fiorano HIP, integrating existing non-ITK compliant systems is simple due to the plethora of pre-built adapters whose visual design tool makes it easy for an in-house IT team to deploy through drag and drop.
Fiorano exposes a web portal to monitor and manage the integration of the healthcare systems. A few features of the portal include:
Fiorano ITK framework provides interoperability with messaging solutions by facilitating connections with Trusts, GP across the NHS and its 111 service. It has been implemented by Healthcare solution providers such as Refer and Siilo to connect to Patient Administrations System (PAS) while Babylon has connected to NHS 111 with Fiorano.

With the Fiorano ITK Framework and the Complex Event Processing functionality of Fiorano HIP, it is possible to add capabilities to construct reports from analysis of messages as they pass through.
Over time as more services are added to the ITK specification, it enables complex reporting and analysis of a patient's treatment and removes duplication of functionality related to discharge summary reporting, patient tracking, patient registry.
Analyse and report on discrepancies between a patient's demographic information passed between systems and held in the PDS on the SPINE, improving the maintenance and accuracy of patient records.
Fiorano's peer-to-peer architecture is unique in its ability to allow a system to scale seamlessly from a single hospital deployment to the national deployment of connected systems.
